The University of Utah contacted Utah Contract Sewing with an unusual request: repair several large tarps that had developed tears and other signs of wear at the university’s baseball field.

The Challenge

Because of the tarps’ size and location, transporting them to our Salt Lake City shop was not practical. The repairs needed to be evaluated and completed directly at the field while coordinating with the university’s grounds crew.

Our Approach

We mobilized a portable industrial sewing machine and battery power source, allowing our team to inspect and repair the tarps on-site. After assessing the damaged areas, we reinforced worn sections and repaired the tears without requiring the tarps to leave the facility.

The Result

We resolved the university’s tarp issues on location and returned the equipment to service—all in the field, literally.
