An integrated backpack and child carrier developed from an inventive real-world solution.

Overview

CarryUp Kid began during a family trip to the zoo. When our client’s youngest child became too tired to walk back to the car, she improvised a way to carry the child using her backpack. Although the solution worked, it was difficult to use and revealed an opportunity for a more practical product.

The Idea

Inspired by that experience and the principle that necessity is the mother of invention, our client envisioned an all-in-one backpack and child carrier that could provide storage during everyday outings and carrying support when a child becomes tired.

Our Approach

Utah Contract Sewing helped transform the initial idea into a manufacturable soft-goods product. We supported the project through design development, material sourcing, patternmaking, prototyping, and iterative refinement.

Prototyping and Development

The backpack and carrier functions needed to work together without compromising comfort, portability, or everyday usability. Through multiple prototypes and samples, we refined the product’s construction, organization, carrying system, and transition between its two functions.

The Result

We delivered refined product samples and a comprehensive tech pack documenting the materials, construction, and specifications needed to prepare CarryUp Kid for manufacturing.
