The Project

Arthur began developing Base Case to address the need for a portable office that combines ease of transport, large high-quality monitors, and a fast, straightforward setup.

His concept used a modular system designed to look, pack, and travel like carry-on luggage while providing the functionality of a mobile workstation.

The Opportunity

During the early stages of the product’s launch, Base Case received significant interest from large financial firms, Department of Defense programs, individuals, and other businesses.

To respond to that interest and prepare for important presentations, the modular briefcase component needed further design refinement and a rapid round of physical samples.

Our Approach

Starting with a basic SketchUp model of the briefcase component, Utah Contract Sewing developed the interior design, sourced appropriate materials, and created functional prototypes.

UCS refined the organization and construction of the interior components while working within the existing hard-case system. The prototypes allowed the client to physically evaluate the design and prepare the product for upcoming demonstrations.

The Result

UCS produced and delivered approximately two dozen samples on an accelerated timeline. This gave the Base Case team functional presentation samples at a critical stage of development and helped them respond to growing interest in the product.

The project demonstrates UCS’s ability to move quickly from a basic digital concept to refined physical samples while maintaining close communication and attention to the product’s intended use.
